For more information about Duke LifePoint, visit www.dukelifepointhealthcare.comJob Description:1.  Blood and Specimen Collection, according to Clinical Laboratory procedures                ● Venipuncture                ● Fingerstick                ● Heelstick                ● Pediatric Phlebotomy                ● Blood Culture                 ●Therapeutic Phlebotomy                ● Drug Screen               ● Urine: clean catch               ● Throat and Nasopharyngeal Swabs               ● Nasopharyngeal Aspirates                 ● Glucose Tolerance Test Specimens                 ● Transcutaneous Bilirubin               ● ACTH Stimulation Test Specimens                ● TRH Provacative test               ● PKU Collection2.  Enter / Review / Organize Outpatient Orders and Test Results in Laboratory Information System                ● Register patient in Star using “quick” registration                ● Place patient orders in Horizon Lab                ● Scan orders into Right Fax                ● Process orders on all Medicare patients through Compliance Checker prior to order entry                  and follow all Medical Compliance  rules to ensure that appropriate paperwork completed                  and follow-up is taken when necessary3. Order, read and report IPPDs                ● Assist patient in completing form correctly, place order in computer and file form                ● Read arm and result in computer                ● Refer patient to employee health if applicable4. Receptionist Duties                ● Answer incoming phone calls and greet customers in Lab reception area                ● Perform necessary communication (via fax or phone) between Lab and Physician /                                 Provider offices to ensure testing is ordered and reported correctly                ● Label and delivery of Outpatient Specimens to Laboratory areas                ● Prepare and distribute specimen containers and instructions to Outpatients                  ● Process, file and mail physician reports5.  Specimen Processing Duties               ● Receive and process specimens               ● Deliver specimens to appropriate departments “instrument ready”               ● Evaluate, reschedule and recollect unacceptable specimens               ● Process reference lab specimens for pickup6.  Assists in the training of new employees, Phlebotomy students, other hospital staff performing      phlebotomy responsibilities throughout the hospital.7.   Phlebotomy Work Area Duties                     ● Temperatures                     ●  Cleaning and maintenance of phlebotomy work area                    ●  Storage and inventory of phlebotomy supplies8.   Achieves departmental goals as defined by job description

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech Pathology, current NC license issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for SLPs and Audiologists, ASHA certification,
  • BLS CPR certification. 
  • Maintains ASHA and NC CEU requirements for licensure. 
  • CFY will be accepted with provisional license and plan for clinical fellowship year.
